New River Studios, North London, February 2020 A crowded punk gig. I go to the corridor to get some air for a moment between sets. It smells of beer and toilets. I smell of beer and other people's sweat. I try to make friends with the venue cat (unsuccessfully). Amusingly with hindsight I was there to see a band called Hygiene. I wonder if everyone washed their hands after using the loo. I can't remember if there was soap in the dispensers. These gigs are always full of familiar faces. Great for an impromptu catch up. No planning in advance. No need to book. Just come as you are.
